Upgrade Review

   Movie Summary

Upgrade is a sci-fi thriller that takes place in the not so distant future.  After a terrible incident Grey Trace is left almost entirely paralyzed.  He decides to become the test subject for a new form of AI that can restore his mobility.  With this new found ally he tracks down those who wronged him.

MPAA Rating/Content

This film is rated R for strong violence, grisly images, and language. There is a brief scene where an incision during surgery is shown in it's entirety. If you are uneasy during scenes like this be cautioned. Also if you are triggered by someone else vomiting there are 2 scenes where the main character vomits. Gun and knife violence are heavily featured, and there are some brutal take downs.

 My Rating: 9/10

I was really impressed with this movie. I had caught a quick peak of it beforehand and it sold me on going to see it. It wasn't initially on my radar, and based on it's box office so far I don't think it is on many people's. This is a small movie overall, but it accomplishes what it needs to. Some of the action sequences in this were things I had never seen done before. The camera work in particular was the highlight for me. The way it showcases the action scenes is something pretty unique.

A darker movie like this doesn't typically have humor, but there are some very funny moments in this that don't take away from the severity of the story. For fans of the sci-fi and thriller genres I would highly recommend seeing this in the theater. It won't last long due to it's lack of awareness to the general movie going audience so catch it while you can.
