Psych: The Movie Review

   Movie Introduction

Psych: The Movie picks up 3 years after we left everyone's favorite psychic detective.  It is a direct continuation of where we left the gang in the series finale.

   MPAA Rating/Content

MPAA rating doesn't apply on this one since it is technically a TV movie that aired on the USA Network.  In TV ratings it is TV-PG which is usually the equivalent of a light PG-13 film.  No real foul language in this or sexual material.  There are multiple mentions of a "dongle", which refers to a digital key card, but a few characters make fun of it because it sounds like it's referring to something else.

   My Rating: 7/10

*What I Liked

It was really nice to see some of my favorite TV characters back on screen again.  I was a pretty big fan of the series and watched all of it and some episodes multiple times.  I think one of the standouts in this are Shawn and Gus' relationship and how it has not changed at all.  Their on screen chemistry is on point, and even though they quote some of their famous lines it doesn't ever feel out of place.  Some movies and TV shows tend to overdue this when a sequel is brought back years later.  I'm happy to say this one does not.

Possibly my favorite parts in this were the interactions between Gus and a new female interest.  Let's just say I think he finally found someone who is a perfect fit.  Zachary Levi also does a great job as one of the "villains" in this.  I didn't even recognize him at first.  This was something different from him.

*What I didn't Like

The last half hour was a little strange to me.  It felt like we were missing something.  There is a scene where an individual is kidnapped, and then it just cuts to another scene with no explanation of why everyone is here, and what is going on.  It seems like maybe a scene here was cut for time or they are just relying on the audience too much to fill in the blanks.  Some of the ending scenes just sort of felt mashed together and didn't really make sense.  Also even though I was a fan of the series and saw every episode I was a little lost at times going "Hey who is that?" or "What happened again with them?".

Oddly there is a decent amount of Christmas music played in this, but there isn't any actual Christmas events happening at any point.  Seemed a little weird to have Christmas music, but no Christmas themes.  It also seemed like these characters didn't really do anything the last 3 years.  You could have said this movie took place even a couple weeks after the finale and things wouldn't have been much different.
