Deadpool 2 Review

   Movie Summary

The sequel to the highest grossing domestic R rated film Deadpool hits theaters this weekend.  After the climax of the first film; Wade Wilson travels the world fighting guys worse than him.  When a young boy, and a time traveler's vendetta come into play he must assemble the X-Force to save the day.  Did not mean for that to rhyme.

MPAA Rating/Content

Deadpool 2 is rated R for strong violence and language throughout, sexual references and brief drug material.  I shouldn't have to say this, but this isn't a movie for kids.  After working at a theater for the first film I saw countless young children attend this movie.  Other than nudity it has just about everything an R rating can allow.

 My Rating: 8.5/10

I didn't enjoy it as much as the first Deadpool, but as far as sequels go this was a definite win.  Comedies especially have a tough time capturing the magic of the first film.  This took what it did right in the previous installment and expanded on it even further.  I didn't think they could beat the opening credit sequence of the last one, but man was this one something special.

They had a much bigger budget on this one and you can tell.  I wouldn't say it was absolutely necessary because sometimes under money constraints you can end up with a better end product.  I did feel that some of the jokes fell flat, but only because at times it was overdone.  For the vast majority though it had some hilarious callbacks as well as plenty of new developments.  The trailers did kind of ruin a few moments for me since I knew they were coming ahead of time.  That wasn't something I remember being a big issue on the first film.

The new entries to the franchise I thought were good.  Many don't get much screen time at all.  Domino and Cable are really the only ones who get somewhat fleshed out.  There are 2 post credits scenes, but both are within the credits.  Nothing at the very end so once you see those 2 scenes you are free to get up.

Have you seen it?  What did you think?  Be sure to let me know in the comments and share this review with your friends.  Also if you live in the Magic Valley be sure to see it at Magic Valley Cinema 13!
