Jim and Andy: The Great Beyond Review (Netflix)

   Movie Introduction

This documentary features never before seen footage taken behind the scenes of the making of Man on the Moon.  Jim Carrey portrays Andy Kauffman in this as it practically does shot for shot remakes of real life events.  The true story here and the purpose of this documentary is how Jim Carrey literally became Andy.

   MPAA Rating/Content

This is a Netflix documentary so an MPAA rating does not apply.  If it were though based on language and nudity this would be rated R if released theatrically.  There are multiple F-words used, and some female upper nudity is shown.  There is also some deep and dark themes discussed.

   My Rating: 9/10

*What I Liked

Jim Carrey has always been one of my favorite actors especially growing up.  This documentary really gave me a new perspective of him.  He is featured in and out as an interviewee as they talk about the making of the movie, and really just his life in general.  Having not seen Man on the Moon this did enough to give you the background information needed to where it made sense.  It also makes me really want to check that one out now knowing what went on behind the camera.  This did a nice job of correlating the actual events of Andy Kauffman's life, and showing how Jim Carrey became him.  I feel very bad for the cast and crew that had to work with Jim on the making of that movie.  He never went out of character, and was just plain insane at some points as he took the role way too far.  It also delves into Jim Carrey returning to his real life after "being" someone else for so long.

*What I didn't Like

I found myself not liking Jim Carrey at times throughout this.  While this isn't a problem with the documentary it is something that may effect you as well.  I just hope I can still enjoy his old movies having known what is really going on in his head.  He is someone who really seems out of it and needs help.
