American Assassin Review

Movie Introduction

American Assassin is based on a series of books by Vince Flynn.  Dylan O'Brien and Michael Keaton star in this action packed thrill ride.

MPAA Rating/Content

This film is rated R for strong violence throughout, some torture, language and brief nudity.  There is definitely a heavy amount of violence in this and some of the goriest stuff happens in the first 10 minutes.  As mentioned above there is also a quick scene of female nudity.  If you are easily made uncomfortable then the torture scene may bother you.  It involves pulling off an individuals fingernails and also shocking him via jump cables and water.

My Rating: 8/10

I was pretty intrigued going into this since the trailers seemed to show a different approach to the assassin film.  Casting a younger and not the biggest actor around was a different choice than what you will see in some other films like this.  You will probably recognize him from the Maze Runner movies, but I think this was a much better performance on his part.  Michael Keaton is also great as usual.  It was maybe a little long at certain parts, but overall it kept me in the action and I was excited to see what happens next.  It had a great setup to it, and it follows through with it until the end.  I would much look forward to seeing other books adapted to film in this series.
