Spiderman: Homecoming Review

Movie Introduction

Are you confused with the amount of Spider-Man movies we've had recently and how they fit in with the bigger universe?  If you are a hard core Marvel fan it probably makes perfect sense to you, but if you are more of a casual fan this film should clear things right up.  If you've seen Captain America: Civil War then you are already familiar with this new Spider-Man.  This picks up right where that leaves off and also has some scenes that take place before and during the events of Civil War.  Like usual the more Marvel Cinematic Universe films you've seen the more you'll pick up and enjoy in this movie.  I would at least recommend seeing the Iron Man films and Captain America: Civil War before watching this.  You'll have a greater appreciation if you do so.

MPAA Rating/Content

Spider-Man: Homecoming is rated PG-13 for sci-fi action violence, some language and brief suggestive comments.  This is an overall pretty clean film and there isn't too much to worry about for younger viewers.  There isn't any real foul language other than some kids at Peter Parker's high school that refer to him as "Penis" Parker several times.  I believe that is what the MPAA is referring to in terms of brief suggestive comments.  There is also what I would call a half "F-bomb" in the film to be aware of.  Keep an eye out for 2 post credit scenes as well!

My Rating: 8/10

This was a really great Marvel film.  I'll have to watch it a couple more times to determine if it's my favorite Spider-Man.  I am still pretty partial to the first 2 Spider-Man films with Tobey Maguire since I grew up with those.  There is no question though that this is the best iteration of the high school Spider-Man as it was pretty obvious both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were definitely not high school age.  I do believe Tom Holland is the best actor we've gotten as Spider-Man just not sure on if the movie as a whole is the best film.  It certainly is the most comedic one we have gotten and creates a pretty accurate depiction of how a person this age would react to being a part of this world of superheroes.

This is also one of the best villain portrayals I've seen in Marvel as well.  The villains motives are clearly established and fit in very well with the story.  Michael Keaton as the Vulture not only brings us a villain we've never seen on screen, but delivers a memorable performance to go along with it.
