Transformers: The Last Knight Review

Movie Introduction

Here we go again...  Some of these major franchises just seem to never end.  Five films in and this one should have ended at #3.  I was really into the first Transformers, but all of the entries since haven't quite lived up to it.  There are some good moments in 2 and 3, but overall it just seems to go on and on.

MPAA Rating/Content

The Last Knight is rated PG-13 for violence and intense sequences of sci-fi action, language, and some innuendo.  Similar to what I said in my Pirates 5 review if you've seen any of the other Transformer films you know what to expect in terms of violence and language.  This pretty much hits all of the usual tropes found in the other 4 movies.  Also even though this is one of the shorter films in the franchise it is still waaaaay too long.  These would be so much better if they just condensed them a bit.

My Rating: 3/10

This film was about what I expected.  There really aren't any changes or improvements that they are doing on these movies.  They seem to keep relying on things that worked in the past and keep overdoing it.  For example Optimus takes any chance he can get to say "I am Optimus Prime", and while yes that was pretty epic the first time they used it in the first film they don't need to keep doing it.  I remember at least 3 times in just this movie alone that he says it.  And he's hardly in the movie.

There is a very forced romantic relationship that is just plain awkward and does not work at all.  There was really no point in having it in there at all as it did nothing for the story.  The reason I didn't rate it lower is because visually it is excellent.  It's just really hard to care about those excellent visuals.  I did also like the introduction of the butler transformer Cogman.  Out of all the performances his was probably the best and most comical.

Unfortunately it is set up for another sequel and they have already announced a Bumblebee spin off movie.  So expect at least 2 more films in this never ending saga.
